LucidPix

Capture the world with 3rd dimension.
Project Overview
LucidVR has built up an enormous database of 3D graphical data that allows photos taken by any dual camera to be trained and matches the performance of other hardware depth systems. Lucid creates a new 3D photo generator app – LucidPix. Which can let the user create a 3D photo with their own dual camera device without other tools.

What I did

I oversee the progress of the project to make sure our team stays on schedule. I participated in all stages of our project development. Including interview target audience, personas, generate user survey, create mockups for user testing, ideation, and fast-protptyping.As the UI designer in the team, I also re-designed the app icon from 2d to 3d to echo our concept as a 3d photo sharing application and marketing flyers for better branding consistency.

Challenge

Now Lucid has the product but haven’t find the right market to fit in the product, because users only have limited ideas of 3D photos.

PRIMARY RESEARCH

Competitor Matrix

Since new to the 3D photo market, I initiated the market reseach by exploring both photo editing and 3d photo capture application online and creating the market segamentation map. Meanwhile, to have a clear mind of the potential audience for our lucidpix, we immediately started the process of user interviews.u
SECONDARY RESEARCH

User Interview

Judy (UX Intern) and I worked together on the phone interviews. We tagarted into different channels to collect the data points. I mainly focused on getting input from all kinds of 3D-photo sharing groups on Facebook (new users), whereas Judy mostly focusing on company’s communication channel, such as Lucid’s newsletter and Lucid’s social media accounts (existing users). We combined our result together and found some overlaps in the user base.

Target Audience

We tried to created our primary and secondary persona based on 3 user interview and 20 survey results.
UNDERSTAND PRIORITIES
Before we start to design, we have schedule a meeting with CEO, Design Lead and RD department to discuss what are our priorities and what is the best way to work with the RD department. We narrow it down to two tasks:

1. How to let more people download the app (Increase download rate)?
2. How to let user understand what is 3D photo (Increase retention rate)?

Among these 2 tasks, we figure the first task is our top priority. The reason we make this decision is that, the more real users we have for our app, the more usage data, and real user feedback we can gather to help improve and accelerate our future decision-making, based on statistics and data analytics.

DIVE INTO THE PRODUCT

Onsite Interview

Feedback
To know further about what users' behavior and their pain points while taking/sharing 3D photos. My partner(judy)and I Interviewed 4 existing/potential users.

Pain Points:

·      Lost track when in the sharing process to social media
·      Suggest 3D frames are not distinctive and unique
·      Users are confused about 3D photosMisleading icons or in wrong places

Proposals
Based on the feedback by observation 4 users trying to finish 3 tasks in 15mins for each. I collected 4 valuable directions that could help lucidpix improve.

Action items

·      Bring 3D photo gallery/community for new users
·      Provide customziable 3D text, stickers, frames features
·      Add education page for easier sharing/posting experience (API limitation)
·      Icon Redesign

ITERATION & WIREFRAMING

Information Architecture

The reason to create a the flow map is to visualzie how each user as Jonathan interacts with 3D sharing process. This helps build knowledge and consensus across the production team ( CEO, Dev team, and designers)
